In a deep dive into Nigeria's political evolution, Dr. Charles Awuzie warns the APC that the same arrogance and insensitivity that cost the PDP its 60-year dream are now resurfacing. He argues that while leaders think they are untouchable, history proves that power is a cycle and 'heaven' eventually falls on every party that ignores the people.
'In 2008, while addressing Journalists in ASO ROCK, a space he thought he owned, my elder, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor boasted that “PDP WILL RULE NIGERIA FOR 60 YEARS”. Nigerians were angry. But instead of clarifying that statement with humility, the Party, through Koro S. A. Auta declared that PDP will rule Nigeria for 100 Years, insensitively backing the statement of their Chieftain Vincent Ogbulafor.
Well, the party lost power after 16 years instead of 60 years. Life has a way of creating poetry out of nonsense.
Enters APC…
They sang the song of Change in 2015 and won the hearts of many. They were revolutionary. They gave Nigeria the best opposition we’ve ever had in the history of our fragile democracy. America predicted that heavens will fall but Jonathan told them “my ambition is not worth the bl00d of any Nigerian”. He gave up power and the APC started growing almost automatically. Yes, it didn’t grow because they were different. Nigerian Political Parties do not grow because they are different but because they are renting the National Cake. Once they eat the cake or denied their share of the cake, they will move on. The same people who were in PDP simply moved over to PDP. Atiku, Amaechi and others who are now saints in ADC were once in APC. El-Rufai of APC is now a chieftain in ADC. What about Dino Melaye - the one who climbed a tree and spent 11 hours on the tree to avoid arrest? ADC have crowned them Saints. It is now “strategic” for ATIKU to spend millions in lobbying White House - something I personally fought against in 2023. Politics is funny. I now understand why David Clark said “We reject: kings, presidents and voting. We believe in: rough consensus and running code." Only codes, AI, and Decentralisation can save humanity.
But before you crucify the new ADC Saints, we have a PDP Pro Max in town - the APC. I can’t imagine the level of insensitivity one needs to attain to boldly tell the opposition in a democracy that Heaven will not fall if they are manipulated out of the nation’s next general elections. My stomach hurts. I feel like throwing up. Jeez. APC get mind oh.
But before you hang APC and their insensitivity - do not mind those online trolls claiming that they will bring heaven down if ADC is not on the ballot. I can bet with my Ex’s favourite fake Brazilian hair that Nigeria will never experience a r£volution. Not because the people are weaklings but because the people are divided along the lines of tribes and religion. So yes, the APC were saying the truth when they told you that HEAVEN will not fall if ADC doesn’t make it to the ballot. It is insensitive, saddening and disgusting to hear such statement - but are we not the same country that hailed Trump when he called us a Disgraced Country. We said he was telling us the bitter truth. Well, the APC has learnt that no matter how insensitive insults are, Nigerians will swallow it. And the likes of Charles Awuzie who hates INSULTS OR DISRESPECT either at his person or at his country must now be bold to tell APC to stop insulting Nigerians otherwise he will be branded a City Boy.
Why did I even turn on the notification button on Africa ThisDay Website? Now I see news like this which I used to miss.
It’s work day and I want to mind my businesses but abeg, tell our people on the other side that PDP’s heaven fell just after 16 years. The entire heaven may not fall but heaven has a way of falling one day at a time, one place at a time, one party at a time. Power belongs to the people'
