ADC Sets May 12 for Inauguration of New State Executives Amidst Leadership Crisis

Despite a deepening leadership crisis and derecognition by INEC, the ADC has announced May 12, 2026, as the date to inaugurate its newly elected state officials.

​The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially announced the date for the formal inauguration of its newly elected State Executives and chairmen across the federation. According to a statement released on Sunday, April 12, 2026, the party has scheduled the inauguration for May 12, 2026. This move follows the successful conduct of state congresses in several states, including Osun and Anambra, just this past Saturday.

​The party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, congratulated the new officials, noting that their emergence is a testament to the party's dedication to the rule of law. He stated, 'These elections, carried out in line with the provisions of the law and the party's constitution, reflect the ADC's enduring commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and the rule of law.' Abdullahi further urged the incoming leaders to stay focused on the task ahead, adding, 'The task ahead requires unity, discipline, and a continued commitment to building a strong, credible alternative for the Nigerian people.'

​However, this announcement comes at a time of significant turbulence for the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently derecognised the David Mark-led National Working Committee following a Court of Appeal judgment. INEC has maintained that it will not monitor or attend any congresses until related legal suits are determined. Despite this, the ADC proceeded with its polls, asserting that the task of strengthening the party structure cannot be delayed.

​As the May 12 inauguration date approaches, the political community is watching closely to see how the party navigates its legal challenges at the Supreme Court. The new state leadership will face the immediate challenge of deep-seated factions and the need to reconcile aggrieved members to present a united front for future elections.
