Kwara Killing: They Were Massacred Refusing to Succumb to Converted Form of Islamic Doctrine — Governor AbdulRazaq

In a chilling revelation that has sent shockwaves across Nigeria, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has confirmed that the 75 residents slaughtered in Kaiama were targeted for their unwavering religious convictions. Speaking during a late-night assessment visit to the Woro and Nuku communities on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the Governor disclosed that the victims—predominantly local Muslims—were massacred because they bravely refused to succumb to a "strange and converted" form of Islamic doctrine being forcefully preached by extremist cells.

According to the Governor, the attackers were not typical bandits looking for ransom but ideological extremists who sought to impose a distorted version of the faith. He noted that the victims stood their ground against these elements, who demanded they ditch their traditional practices and allegiance to the state. "This village refused to succumb to a converted form of Islamic doctrine," AbdulRazaq stated, describing the event as a pure, cold-blooded massacre of defenseless people who chose their faith over extremist submission. He emphasized that the heartlessness of the attackers was evident in how they chose soft targets, shooting indiscriminately at men, women, and children during what should have been a peaceful evening.

More so, the Governor revealed that the level of destruction went beyond the loss of life, as the extremists razed homes and targeted community landmarks, including reports of the King’s palace being set ablaze. He characterized the attack as a "cowardly expression of frustration" by terrorist cells feeling the heat of ongoing counter-terrorism operations elsewhere in the state. Consequently, the Governor assured the Emir of Kaiama and the traumatized survivors that the government would not allow such an affront to the people's faith and safety to go unpunished. He confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has already ordered the deployment of a full army battalion to the area to spearhead "Operation Savannah Shield," a decisive military command tasked with flushing out these "barbaric terrorists" from the forest reserves bordering Niger State and ensuring that the blood of the martyrs of Kaiama was not shed in vain.
