Nigerian Army Investigates Soldier Welfare Complaints; Hands Over Blogger Justice Crack to Civil Authorities for Alleged Subversion

The Nigerian Army has clarified the arrest of blogger and social media influencer Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, following allegations of inciting soldiers and attempting to create discontent within the military. While the soldiers involved remain in military custody for internal investigation, Chidiebere has been handed over to civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

​The Nigerian Army has officially addressed the viral reports concerning the arrest of social media influencer Justice Mark Chidiebere. The intervention followed a series of social media posts by the blogger regarding the welfare and feeding conditions of certain soldiers. While the Army confirmed that these welfare complaints are being looked into, the investigation has shifted toward a potential breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and broader security concerns.

​According to a preliminary report released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the influencer allegedly engaged in discussions with soldiers that went beyond mere welfare complaints. The Army claims that evidence from these interactions suggests an attempt to incite personnel and foster discontent within the military system. Specifically, the military authorities cited a chat between Chidiebere and the soldiers that allegedly bordered on subversion, a serious offense with significant implications for national security.

​The Nigerian Army emphasized that the cultivation of military personnel by civilians for acts of subversion is a direct threat to institutional discipline. Consequently, Justice Chidiebere was apprehended alongside the soldiers involved to facilitate a thorough investigation. Following the initial military probe, the Army has now transferred the blogger to the relevant civil security agencies, as he is a civilian, to determine the extent of his involvement and proceed with legal action if necessary.

​In the statement, the Army reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and maintained that its actions were taken to safeguard national sovereignty and maintain internal order. Colonel Anele stated that the military will continue to collaborate with civil authorities to ensure that the matter is handled according to legal standards.

​While the soldiers remain under military jurisdiction to face internal disciplinary processes, the hand-over of Chidiebere to civil authorities marks a transition of his case into the Nigerian judicial system.
