JUST IN: NANS Elects Former Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde as New National President

The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) is currently on the map as one of its own, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (popularly known as Babtee), has just been elected the new NANS National President.

​The Independent Convention Planning Committee (ICPC) has officially declared Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez as the winner of the highly anticipated 2026 NANS Presidential election. The announcement has sent waves of excitement across tertiary institutions nationwide, marking a powerful return to national leadership for the seasoned student advocate.

​The figures from the national ballot tell a story of an absolute blowout. Out of a total of 372 accredited voters, Babatee pulled an incredible 349 votes, leaving the rest of the playing field far behind. The official breakdown of the final result released by the ICPC highlights just how deep his grassroots support ran across the regions:

• ​Aminu Haruna Maipampo: 12 votes
• ​Odumosu Olumide: 10 votes
• ​Awoyinpa Opeoluwa Opiano: 01 vote

​To paint an even clearer picture of his dominance, the ICPC also released zonal breakdowns, including Zone F (South East), where Babatee scooped up 39 votes, leaving his rivals Maipopo and Opiano sitting at a clean 00 votes.

​This sweeping victory is no accident; it is backed by years of administrative experience. Babatee is a familiar powerhouse within national student unionism, having served as the NANS Senate President in 2024 and anchored the legislative arm of the government that ran into 2025. His deep understanding of the inner workings of NANS clearly gave him the leverage needed to convince delegates that he was the right man to pilot the executive affairs of the apex student body.

​With the elections now wrapped up, the OAUSTECH student leader is set to take the reins of national student leadership. Delegates and student stakeholders are already expressing high optimism that his tenure will deliver on its core promises: restoring active, non-violent advocacy, bridging national campus divisions, and keeping student welfare at the very top of his agenda.
