Former House of Assembly Minority Leader, Maria Ude Nwachi (popularly known as Afikpo Chic), has officially secured the PDP senatorial ticket ahead of the January 2027 national elections. Known for her highly vocal and fearless political style, her victory at the direct primaries in Afikpo officially sets her up for a major national comeback.

​The race for the Ebonyi South senatorial seat has taken a dramatic turn following the conclusion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) direct primary held in Afikpo. In a move that establishes a definitive showdown for January 16, 2027, former Minority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Maria Ude Nwachi, completely clinched the party’s ticket.

​Addressing journalists in Abakaliki after her primary victory, an excited Nwachi credited her return to political alignment and divine timing, specifically acknowledging business mogul and PDP governorship aspirant, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii (Anyichuks), for facilitating the platform.

​"I never planned to contest or even return to politics, but God has now ordained it," Nwachi stated, emphasizing that her primary goal is to use the legislative seat to lift people out of poverty and reduce the burdens on her constituency.
