​'Tell Us the Secret of Your Mama’s Groundnut!'— Nigerian Lady Blasts Men Who Doubt the Success of Young Female Entrepreneurs

 A Nigerian lady has sparked an intense debate online after calling out what she describes as a massive double standard in how men view success. She questioned why men proudly celebrate their mothers for training six children through university by "selling groundnut," but immediately label a young hair vendor or lash tech a "hookup girl" once she buys a car or a house.

​The Social media space is currently on fire following a viral post from a lady who is tired of the skepticism directed at hardworking young women. According to her, there is a "lethal paradox" in how the boy-child views his mother’s past struggles versus a contemporary girl’s success.

​She pointed out that many men share emotional stories of how their mothers single-handedly sponsored entire families through university by roasting corn or selling groundnut. However, the same men are often the first to scream "clitocurrency" or "sugar daddy" when they see a young hairstylist, chef, or lash tech moving into a well-furnished apartment.

​In her raw and unfiltered post, she wrote:

​'But your mama wey use groundnut money send you and your 4 siblings go school from primary school till university level innocent Abi???? Girl wey dey do crochets to survive na Ash@wo but your mama wey dey roast corn to feed you and your 6 siblings... na SUPER WOMAN.'

​She didn't stop there. She went ahead to challenge the mathematics of the "old days," noting that back then, groundnut and corn were sold for as low as ₦20 and ₦50. She jokingly (but firmly) threatened to meet these mothers to ask exactly what kind of "special groundnut" they were selling that could fund five university degrees simultaneously.

​The post has triggered a wave of reactions, with many women nodding in agreement that 'legit work' still exists among the youth. On the other side, some men argue that the economic climate of 2026 makes the comparison unfair.
