'Step Down Honorably' — Veteran Actress Shan George Urges President Tinubu to Resign, Says Age has Taken Its Toll

Veteran actress Shan George has advised President Tinubu to resign honorably, questioning what happened to the 'City Boy' who transformed Lagos.

Veteran Nollywood actress and award-winning filmmaker, Shan George, has sent shockwaves through social media following a deeply personal and candid open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a post shared on her official handle, the actress took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the "City Boy" Nigerians once knew—the Governor who transformed Lagos State with "grace and panache" despite facing fierce opposition from the then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Shan George pointed out that Tinubu’s track record in Lagos, where he built MM2, dualized Allen Avenue, and created LASTMA, was the very yardstick many used to measure his capacity for the presidency. She even drew a striking comparison between Tinubu’s past achievements and the current transformation being led by Governor Alex Otti in Abia State. However, she expressed deep confusion and disappointment at the current state of the nation, asking a question on many Nigerians' lips: 'Where is the Tinubu we used to know?'

In her honest assessment, the actress attributed the current struggle to "Nature’s call"—Age. While acknowledging that becoming President was his lifelong goal (the "Emilokan" surge), she argued that the demands of leading the "Giant of Africa" are too strenuous for his current stage in life. "It’s honourable to leave the stage when there’s still some applaud, loud or not," she wrote, warning that those around him—his "cronies"—might not tell him the truth because of their own personal gains.

Shan George’s plea was blunt and emotional, urging the President to prioritize his health and legacy by stepping down before the pressure of the office 'pushes him to kpai.' Clarifying her stance, she stated that she is not a card-carrying member of any political party, nor is she currently supporting any candidate. 'I’m just a good citizen bearing her mind respectfully,' she concluded. The post has since gone viral, with many praising her courage while others defend the President's ongoing 'Renewed Hope' agenda.
