'Exposing the Sabotage’ — Onwe Destiny Obasi (Polymath) Narrates the Truth Behind the Ebonyi ADC Congress and the Collapse of the Adibe Faction

​In a comprehensive tell-all, the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Ebonyi State, Onwe Destiny Obasi, has detailed the "turbulence and triumph" of the party’s recent congress. He reveals how the leadership, led by Sam Ominyi Egwu, overcame alleged APC-sponsored infiltration and a parallel congress attempt to emerge with a legitimate, nationally recognized executive structure.

'All About Ebonyi ADC: Truth, Turbulence, and Triumph :

Before the commencement of the ADC congresses, the party in Ebonyi State already had a well-defined and functional structure. The leadership hierarchy was clearly established : Sam Ominyi Egwu served as the State Leader; Fidelis Nwankwo led Ebonyi North; while Linus Okorie and Anayo Edwin coordinated Ebonyi South and Central respectively.

At the time, Mrs. Jennifer Adibe remained the State Chairman of the party, notwithstanding persistent and weighty allegations of her fraternizing with the ruling All Progressives Congress and maintaining close ties with Dave Umahi, under whom she had previously served and with whom she reportedly continued to align through her engagements with the Ebonyi State Government.

Despite these concerns, the party leadership exercised restraint. Rather than resorting to arbitrary or forceful removal, they adhered to due process, an approach consistent with responsible leadership. To this end, a Transition Committee was constituted and entrusted with the critical responsibilities of zoning party offices and facilitating the emergence of a new executive structure.

Amidst this process, numerous party faithfuls urged me, Onwe Destiny Obasi (Polymath), to contest for the position of State Publicity Secretary. In response, I formally indicated my interest. I undertook consultations with my political leaders and mentors, particularly Sam Ominyi Egwu and Fidelis Nwankwo, both of whom affirmed my competence and suitability for the role. However, they advised patience pending the outcome of the Transition Committee’s zoning arrangements. My expectation was that the office would be zoned to Ebonyi North, given my origin.

A state congress was subsequently scheduled to hold at the residence of Sam Ominyi Egwu, where the zoning formula would be unveiled and the sale of nomination forms commenced. However, in the early hours of that day, around 3:00 AM, Mrs. Jennifer Adibe began introducing a large number of unfamiliar and questionable individuals, largely from her locality, into the party’s official communication platforms. Shortly thereafter, these individuals commenced the circulation of coordinated messages proclaiming a vote of confidence in her continued leadership as State Chairman. This orchestrated narrative persisted up to the commencement of the congress.

When the Transition Committee eventually released its zoning formula, allocating the State Chairmanship to Ebonyi South and equally zoning the Publicity Secretary position to Ebonyi South, Mrs. Adibe and her supporters reacted with outright hostility. They resorted to verbal attacks against party leaders, issuing threats of conducting a parallel congress on the grounds that the chairmanship was not zoned to Ebonyi Central, her home zone. She went on removing stakeholders and any other person who held a contrary opinion to hers from the state's Whatsapp platform.

Ironically, I was directly affected by the zoning decision, as the office I sought was no longer available to my zone, with only the Deputy Publicity Secretary position allocated to Ebonyi North. Nonetheless, I accepted the outcome in good faith, prioritizing party unity and progress over personal ambition.

In a bid to de-escalate tensions, Sam Ominyi Egwu made several conciliatory efforts, including offering Mrs. Adibe the prospect of a position within the party’s National Executive. She rejected these overtures and instead intensified her confrontational posture, mobilizing individuals to openly insult the party leadership. I personally intervened to caution her and her supporters, but these efforts proved futile. Her conduct increasingly reinforced the suspicion that her actions were being influenced or sponsored by elements within the All Progressives Congress.

Throughout this period, Sam Ominyi Egwu consistently reiterated his lack of personal political ambition, emphasizing that his sole objective was to reposition the ADC for success in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria.

Eventually, the officially recognized State Congress was conducted under the supervision of representatives from the party’s national leadership producing Barr. Silas Onu as the Chairman, Mr. Idika Igu as the publicity secretary, Myself as the Deputy Publicity Secretary and many others. In contrast, Mrs. Adibe assembled a small faction elsewhere and attempted to stage what she presented as a parallel congress, ironically with one of the aspirants in her faction presiding over the process. This act only underscored the lack of credibility of her claims.

At the National Convention in Abuja, none of the delegates purportedly produced by her faction received recognition. Notably, she herself was nowhere to be found. The political forces that had allegedly backed her actions in APC with the clear hands of the likes of Hon. Oguzorkanu Offia-Nwali and Chijioke Agwu were left disappointed, as her influence within the party effectively collapsed. In the end, she stands politically isolated, having been exposed and, in effect, returned to the very fold, All Progressives Congress (AP) with which she was long accused of aligning.'
