"He Was My Classmate": Chief Obinna Accuses Minister Dave Umahi of N7 Million Debt

​The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, is facing a fresh wave of allegations as a businessman, Chief Obinna, has come forward claiming the Minister owes him N7 million for work done at his hotel in Abakaliki. In a viral video clip, Chief Obinna identified himself as a former classmate of the Minister at Government Secondary School, Afikpo, expressing deep disappointment over how he was reportedly treated.

​The debt is allegedly tied to a "small contract job" executed at Osborne La Palm, a prominent hotel in Abakaliki owned by the Minister. Chief Obinna stated that while many were aware of his engagement for the project, the experience left a "very sad taste" in his mouth. He emphasized that he had initially avoided a public confrontation but felt compelled to speak out following the Minister's recent public issues with other accusers.

​In a scathing assessment of the Minister’s character, Chief Obinna claimed that their personal history as classmates did not stop Umahi from treating him poorly. "Dave Umahi is not a good person. Because, notwithstanding the fact that he was my classmate... he treated me badly," the businessman lamented.

​While the Minister recently dismissed other claims of debt and harassment as "mischievous" social media theatrics, Chief Obinna warned that his own case is distinct and that he is prepared to take formal action. He noted that he does not wish to "expose" the Minister further at this stage but insisted that the N7 million must be paid.

​The businessman concluded his statement by declaring his intention to take the matter to the authorities. "Let it be on record that he is still owing me 7 million Naira and I need that money, and soon will go for him. I will report myself to the police," he said, thanking the public for their ongoing support.

​This new allegation adds to the mounting pressure on the Minister of Works, who is already embroiled in a legal battle with Mrs. Tracy Ohiri over separate claims of a 12-year-old debt. As of now, the Minister's media office has not issued an official response to Chief Obinna's specific claims, but the situation continues to generate significant conversation across social media platforms.
