Governor Francis Nwifuru Flags Off Second Batch of Ebonyi Overseas Scholars

Ebonyi State reached a major milestone in its human capital development journey today as Governor Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru officially flagged off the Second Batch of Ebonyi State Overseas Scholarship beneficiaries.
Speaking at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Ezza, the Governor described the moment as more than just a travel arrangement, calling it "destiny taking flight" for the state's brilliant sons and daughters. This second phase of the fully funded scholarship scheme targets postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to building a globally competitive workforce under the "People’s Charter of Needs" agenda.

Addressing the departing scholars, Governor Nwifuru made it clear that their selection was a deliberate choice to prioritize human capital over other competing demands. He reminded them that they are traveling as ambassadors of Ebonyi State, carrying the weight of the people's collective sacrifice and the values of discipline, integrity, and excellence. "Every naira invested in them is a collective sacrifice by the people of Ebonyi," the Governor noted, expressing firm confidence that the scholars will justify the trust reposed in them. Also, he pointed out that this investment is the surest path to sustainable development, stating that no society can truly rise above the quality of its people.

However, Governor Nwifuru has maintained a high standard for the program, commending the Ministry of Tertiary Education and the State Scholarship Board for a transparent selection process. He proudly reported that beneficiaries from the first batch are already excelling with distinctions in top universities across the UK and Canada, setting a high bar for the new set of scholars. Also, the Governor released the students with a fatherly charge to excel and return home equipped to build a stronger Ebonyi. As the scholars board their flights, the state looks forward to a future where these returning experts will lead innovation and progress in line with the Governor's vision for a prosperous Ebonyi State.
