Official: Anthony Joshua Involved in Fatal Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; Two Confirmed Dead

 

The Incident:

Tragedy struck on Monday morning as British-Nigerian boxing icon Anthony Joshua was involved in a ghastly motor accident. According to Punch Newspapers, the crash occurred around 11:00 AM in the Makun area, near Sagamu, Ogun State.

Official FRSC Report:

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially confirmed the accident. In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, it was revealed that the crash involved a black Lexus SUV (registration KRD 850 HN) carrying Joshua and a stationary red Sinotruck parked by the roadside.




According to Punch Online, a staff member who witnessed the scene, Adeniyi Orojo, reported that two people died on the spot. The FRSC confirmed that a total of five adult males were involved:

  • Two fatalities (deceased deposited at Livewell Morgue, Sagamu).
  • Two escaped unhurt.
  • Anthony Joshua was rescued alive with minor injuries.

Cause of the Crash:

The FRSC preliminary findings indicate that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were the primary causes. The Lexus SUV reportedly lost control during a high-speed maneuver and rammed into the parked truck.

Current Status:

Joshua was rushed to an undisclosed hospital by his security detail. This tragic event comes just 10 days after his victory against Jake Paul in Miami.
